Ultrasound
We recognize that women's health care can be a very personal, intimiate experience. With familiarity comes security, and we seek to offer that at every visit. As part of that commitment, we offer an in-office ultrasound department specializing in obstetrical, gynecological, and urogynecological ultrasounds. Our department is accredited by the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) and the Fetal Medicine Foundation.
What is Ultrasound?
Ultrasound, also called sonography, is a noninvasive medical test that uses sound waves to develop images of what’s going on inside the body. It involves the use of a small transducer or probe that collects sound waves to create an image. Unlike X-Rays, ultrasound examinations do not use radiation, thus there is no radiation exposure to the patient.
Types of Ultrasounds We Perform
Many people who hear the term “ultrasound” likely associate it with pregnancy care. While fetal imaging is one of the most common uses of ultrasound, this diagnostic tool has many other applications. Types of ultrasound we perform in our office include:
Our ultrasound team specializes in ultrasounds focused on women’s healthcare. While we will make every effort to perform your ultrasound in our office, the type of ultrasound ordered and/ or patient preference may determine whether or not your ultrasound will be performed at a hospital. If, for example, your physician orders an ultrasound of your breast, kidney, or gall bladder, we will schedule your appointment at a hospital.
