What is Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation?
Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation (PFR) is the process of strengthening your pelvic floor muscles, which give a hammock-like support to pelvic organs such as the bladder. When those muscles are weakened, patients may experience urinary and/or fecal incontinence as well as interrupted sexual lives.
Causes of weakness include:
- Menopause
- Pregnancy
- Vaginal childbirth
- Excessive lifting or carrying
- Prolonged standing
- Aging
Similar to traditional physical therapy, PFR is an individually structured program that involves multiple office visits to achieve desired results. In addition to office visits, you will be asked to perform exercises at home.
